The Triton is a quirky boutique hotel just at the Chinatown gate and an easy stroll to Union Square. The lobby is artsy with a fireplace, several seating areas, a large screen TV, and interesting view of foot traffic heading in and out of Chinatown. It boasts a complimentary wine happy hour which was a welcome bonus, though I don't think unique for hotels around here. The staff was courteous and helpful. The rooms (at least mine) was small, and I believe that every room has a different decor. Mine had a kitschy bed and wallpaper that was (I think) a Kerouac novel. There was a small bathroom with a shower and a mini bar. I had stayed at the Triton years ago and didn't hesitate to return rather than pay the outrageous price required at my conference hotel a few blocks away. The walk was not onerous and there are many excellent eateries in the area. Complimentary coffee in the morning was a plus. Internet was free if you signed up for the loyalty program. It wasn't all that quiet being at the edge of Chinatown but hey, it's San Francisco.

We loved the wine hour, cookies in the afternoon, and the coffee and tea in the AM. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was superb and everything was exceptionally clean. Being on a budget we appreciated the luxury afforded. Internet was free only to Triton Hotel Members, and the room size was slightly crowded, but we didn't spend much time in the room.

My backpack was was delayed in Portland. We were out when if was delivered to the hotel. The staff told me it had arrived as soon as we walked into the lobby. There was only one small window so room was dark but there was plenty of lights to remedy that problem. Nice touch to have happy hour. Some pretzels or nuts would be nice to have with a drink.

Really nice hotel in downtown of San Francisco. Location is perfect - couple minutes away from California Cable Cars and BART. China town Gate is just around the corner, good Irish pub - also. Staff is very polite and helpful.

The staff and service was excellent.. My room was disappointing.. Very tiny (which is fine) but this room felt like an afterthought with a daybed that was positioned with your feet facing the window away from the door... Sounds a little crazy but not having a more central view of my room totally through off my sleep. When you travel a lot, sleep is important. The bathroom was clean although it took what seemed like 5 minutes for the light over the shower to fully illuminate.
