The New Otani Kaimana Beach is located on the Diamond Head end of the famous beach. We were rewarded with fabulous sunsets and beautiful views of Waikiki beach and its hotels. There was a daily $24 charge for valet parking which was worth it since parking in Waikiki is very limited. We spent a lot of time exploring the rest of Oahu Island but also easily walked to Waikiki's main strip. Our room was not large but adequate for the two of us. It was extremely clean and decorated in minimalist, contemporary Japanese taste. The balcony was an added bonus. Breakfast at the Hau Tree was too hearty for us. We could have shared one serving or just had coffee, fruit and toast.

We had an okay stay here at the New Otani Kaimana Hotel. It is in a great location in Waikiki, at the south end of the strip next to the zoo and aquarium. The hotel itself is a little older, so expect the cleanliness to be less than that of a new hotel. There were some ants in the hotel room, but it could have been something worse, so it wasn't that bad. Parking could be an issue, but we had mopeds, and they were very friendly about letting us park in front by valet parking. Overall, an ok hotel but we probably won't be staying here again when we come back.

The best thing about this little hideaway is that it is away from the busy Waikiki strip but within a short walk. The beach that is directly in front of the hotel is not as crowded as Waikiki. On the other end, there's Kapiolani Park. The park has various activities and if you're lucky enough, you can catch one of the unique cultural fairs. Also, since it is away from the strip, getting to and from is easier especially if you know the routes through the neighborhood streets. And then there's the old Hau Tree Lani dining area. The Hau tree that shades the dining area must be over a hundred years old by now.

  • Very quiet with a friendly and helpful staff.
